Text Diff

Compare two texts line by line with +/- output, optionally ignoring whitespace and case, showing everything or just three lines of context.

Runs in your browser: input and output are never sent to the server, and the platform does not store your input.

How to use

  1. 1Paste each version into one of the two boxes.
  2. 2Tick the ignore options if whitespace or case should not count.
  3. 3For long files, switch to three lines of context — the output reads like diff -u.

FAQ

What do + and - mean?

- is a line only in the original, + is a line only in the changed version, and lines with two leading spaces are the same on both sides. @@ marks a run of unchanged lines that was skipped.

Why line by line rather than character by character?

Lines are the useful granularity for code and config, and the default for git and diff. Character diffs are harder to read once a whole line is rewritten.

Is there a size limit?

3000 lines per side. The comparison table is one side's line count times the other's, and beyond that the tab would freeze — a refusal beats a hang.

With whitespace ignored, which version is shown?

The ignore rules only decide whether two lines match; the output still shows the original text, so what you read is what is actually there.

Is my data uploaded?

No. The comparison runs entirely in your browser; no sign-in and no quota.
